Home away from home
Nestled amongst the gum-lined streets of Mount Barker, in a quiet residential area, HCO has a fully furnished residence with modern facilities ready to offer respite options. The residence is not far from the Laratinga Wetlands where you can explore walking trails and where there is some of the best bird watching in SA.
The town of Mount Barker has one of SA’s best farmers markets where HCO workers can buy local produce in readiness to prepare meals in our modern kitchen. Our qualified workers can lead the residents towards increasing life skills and learning new recipes.
Our local area boasts some of the most sought-after walks and nature emersions, Kuipto forest, Mount Bold, and Woorabinda in Stirling to name a few. We has a detailed trail list and resource guide for short trips to fill your days.
Situated on Peramungk land, not far from Aboriginal sacred sights and cultural art galleries showcasing regional Aboriginal art.
At HCO we are passionate about the arts and community inclusion therefore we connect with organisations including the Hills Youth Theatre and Ink Pot Arts to invigorate our program. We have a full and varied calendar ready for you or your family member to participate in.
Mount Barker is an easy half-hour drive to the City of Adelaide famous for Arts Festivals, Museums, the Adelaide Zoo and the Botanical Gardens. Transport to these sites and more is available.
Other options within an hour’s drive include the Monarto Zoo, River Murray, Fleurieu Peninsula and Mallee areas for country, riverside and beach activities.
People with a disability who live with their families can enjoy this respite facility, designed specifically with them in mind.
Guests can stay overnight, or for longer periods, based on your family’s individual needs, to experience life in a relaxed home away from home environment.
It is the ideal environment for a short holiday-like stay or as a first step towards moving into independent accommodation.
The facility offers individual bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
Plenty of indoor and outdoor activities are provided to ensure our guests have a pleasant stay, while our workers can also support the guests to help build daily life skills.
